Siltanen & Partners have launched a brand spankin new Flash site.

I was tasked with reconstructing and completing an abandoned, complex Flash front end framework and PHP back end from an undocumented and disorganized code base within a short time. Much of the front end was rebuilt or created from scratch.

The new Scion.com is an ambitious, multi-layered, dynamic site built on the Flex 4 platform.

I led the UI development team for this project. One of the main challenges was that, due to an extremely compressed development timeline, the front end and back end development had to happen simultaneously, and the back end development was being handled by a different team. I designed an architecture that is loosely coupled with the back end framework, allowing us to integrate at a later date relatively seamlessly.

The architecture was also designed to enable the components of the site to be built as modules, allowing us to have our team of developers work on different parts of the site without having to integrate heavily with the larger front end framework.

This agency portfolio was designed to have an animated 'Flash like' interface that would play nice on the iPad, smartphones, and other non-Flash capable internet devices. Video will play as HTML5 on non-Flash enabled browsers and all site animations are done with javascript.

This site has a custom built Content Management System that allows the client to change site content as well as maintain the password protect client area.

Crif Dogs makes the most delicious dogs in NYC. They wanted a site that was as fun as their establishment.

The site is dynamically driven with a php backend and a store built on a modified version of OpenCart.

At Scholastic I helped develop System 44, a learning software suite released last year. System 44 is targeted at students, grades 3-12, who are functionally illiterate. The software consists of many game-like instructional activities that teach fundamental reading skills. When they were in the initial development phase of the project they needed working prototypes of the activities to evaluate. I was brought on board to do the rapid prototyping that they needed. Working with their team of instructional educators and designers I created dozens of working activities and eventually brought them together into a functional demo of the software, which included interaction with the SCORM backend being developed for the software.

When the prototype phase was complete they placed me on their development team to transition from prototype to final development. We decided on using Flex with the Cairngorm architecture. I helped build the framework for the software and several working activities in this architecture for their team to use as examples.

I designed and developed this site while employed at Posner Advertising. The site is no longer live, this is a backup copy on my server. Please note that this backup is mostly functional, but you may encounter a few parts that do not load.

One of the technological feats of the Posner site is that it is a Flash site with full SEO. All the content is loaded from standard XHTML pages which can be indexed by search engine spiders from Google, Yahoo and others. When the site was live, all the content from it was listed on links from Google and when you clicked on a link the relevant page would be loaded by the flash front-end.
